Crossway has just released Practicing Hospitality: The Joy of Serving Others, by Pat Ennis and Lisa Tatlock. Here's how one endorser describes the book: Hospitality has never been about having House Beautiful with perfectlyPat Ennis chairs the Home Economics department at The Master's College, and Lisa Tatlock has taught home economics at The Master's College since 1988.
coordinated accessories and the most up-to-date equipment, nor is it dependent upon having large chunks of leisure time and a big entertainment budget to spend, nor does it call for special training in culinary arts or event planning. Hospitality is about a heart for service, the creativity to stretch whatever we do have available, and the energy to give the time necessary to add a flourish to the ordinary events of life. One of the most exciting things about this book is its "anybody can" mentality, including countless ways for a woman to turn her godly intuitions into earthly service in her own humble home.
When I first heard about this book, I wondered if it would (could) speak to single or working women since it focuses largely on the home as the center of a woman's life. The book does indeed have much to offer for women at every stage of life, since its primary message is about giving ourselves, rather than our homes, in distinctly feminine ways. Hectic schedule and all, this book will get you inspired to open your home and heart to others, especially when you find out that one of the authors, Pat, is single, and the other author, Lisa, and her husband have just adopted two children. Because these busy women practice what they preach, the book has lots of credibility.
You'll also find lots of recipes on its pages--fun, fun, fun--and you can buy it by clicking here.

Thank you for sharing about this new "girls book". I am going to put it on my "wish list".
Hospitality has been on my heart for the past year or so as something that is vital.
There is a vast number of reasons for being hospitable...discipleship, evangelism, a refuge or retreat, celebrate a birthday and be a blessing...it is in some ways a forgotten art.
PS - I like your new look!
Blessings to you, Lydia!
Lydia, not sure what you thought about Blue Like Jazz, but I think you and your readers would enjoy the new book: Brown Like Coffe. I found it at brownlikecoffee.com
I would love for you to read it and critique it for us.
Mandy,
I'll get hold of Brown Like Coffee and review it. Thanks for the idea!
